Apprentices are introduced to a variety of programs and occupations in the arts, audio/video technology, and production. Within this context, apprentices will be expected to develop an understanding of the various and multifaceted career opportunities in this cluster and the knowledge, skills, and educational requirements for those opportunities.

OSHA 10

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry course consists of interactive topics discussing various safety tips and procedures one should follow in the workplace.

Film Production Assistant

Apprentices will learn the basic protocols of a professional film set, including safety, professionalism, terminology, and personnel hierarchy. They will also learn how to be a productive and valuable working crewmember, first as a general production assistant and then as a member of a specific department of their choosing. They will end the course by participating on a working film set to experience real-world application of their classroom lessons and learn how all the departments function together as an ecosystem. Finally, apprentices will be connected with working film professionals, unions, and/or film productions for direct job training, work-based learning, apprenticeship opportunities, and real-world experience.

Stagecraft Rigging and Safety

Apprentices in this technical theatre class will understand and utilize basic stagecraft skills to support the different technical design areas, including Set Construction, Light Rigging, Audio Engineering, Costume Construction, and Scenic Painting. Apprentices will be taught industry-standard approaches to technical theater and film. This coursework is heavily based on in-class labs that are highly participatory and hands-on. 

Television, Motion Picture, and Video

Apprentices will be introduced to major film genres and will study the styles of the various directors and actors best known for their influence on specific genres. They will also thoroughly learn the elements that make up pre-production, production and postproduction. Other skills and concepts covered in the course include: scripting, story boarding, shot
techniques, camera movements, sound, basic lighting techniques as well as the basics of directing and editing.

Stagecraft Design Production I

Stagecraft introduces apprentices to a practical approach to technical and production aspects. Apprentices learn the skills needed to construct scenery, hang and focus lighting instruments, and implement a sound system. Apprentices are trained in the usage of tools, lumber, and machinery.

Scenic Design Production

An introduction to the skills, software and techniques of a scenic designer for theatre and the entertainment industry. Apprentices are introduced to the ability to take a script and create and design the world of a theatrical or film production. Apprentices will develop skills in conceptualizing, drawing and model building.

Costuming, Hair, and Make-Up

An introduction to the skills and techniques of a costume designer for theatre and the entertainment industry. Apprentices are introduced to the skills and techniques needed for creating theatrical and film costumes, and conceptualizing characters of a theatrical and film production.

Special Effects and Pyrotechnics

This course teaches apprentices how to become a professional fireworks operator. They will work one-on-one with world-class instructors and practice their skills by creating a real, full-scale, fireworks display.

Expositions and Sporting Events

This course immerses apprentices in the fast-paced field of live events. From meetings to conferences, fundraisers, trade shows and entertainment and sporting events, they will be taught how to plan and execute a wide range of live events. This includes producing content such as interactive presentations, videos, audio and multi-screen mixed media. They will also learn how to scout venues and create floor plans plus set up, operate and tear down the gear behind successful events.
